Studying "Tres notas para decir quiero"

The time has come to learn how to play โ€œTres notas para decir te quieroโ€ by Vicente Amigo Girol.

This composition is one of the most frequently performed pieces by the heir to modern flamenco guitar. Every serious guitarist should make a point of getting to know it and learning to play at least part of this piece.

That is why, this time, we are giving you the sheet music and tablature in PDF format, along with a brief analysis of this composition.

    Vicente Amigo Girol's Style

Vicente Amigo Girol is a remarkably complete guitarist who has managed to weave other, more commercial styles into his flamenco DNA without ever losing the essence of his gypsy guitar.

For that reason, you should aim to play โ€œTres notas para decir te quieroโ€ with a fresh, modern feel, setting aside the 100% flamenco sound a little and instead reaching for the simplicity of a more commercial sound.

That is what "Tres notas para decir te quiero" is all about: being romantic with few harmonic variations, while flirting with two worlds, flamenco and the commercial appeal of a romantic ballad.

Tres notas para decir te quiero

There are at least three aspects you need to consider in order to get a performance as close as possible to Vicente Amigo's.

Follow these tips for playing Tres notas para decir te quiero and you will have it in your repertoire before long.

    Tempo

This piece is a Flamenco Rumba and the metronome will be your best ally for achieving a steady, in-tempo, and clean performance of "Tres notas para decir te quiero."

Essentially, the tempo is worked with the quarter note at 180 bpm, but we recommend starting your practice at 120 bpm. That way, once you have mastered complete sections, you can gradually move up in increments of 10 bpm until you are playing it at the original tempo.

Another interesting aspect of this composition is that it is worked in 4/4 time. For that reason, you should set your metronome to mark the strong beat of the measure every four pulses.

    Harmony

Harmonically, this composition is in the key of E minor since the only accidental is F#. Even so, you will find that notes from the E minor melodic scale are also used.

In general, this piece is built on the chords Am, B7, C, G, D, Em. So the key here will be finding the correct position of the chords and notes you need to play to achieve the right sound.

    Movements

This piece consists of four clearly defined movements, the first of which is the intro that runs over a foundation of Bm and A7sus4, ending on B2dim but the key is the position of the chords.

After this comes the verse, which starts on the harmonic function of Em with Em7 as the foundation, and from there moves toward Am7, B7b5dim, and ends on Em7.

The verse is followed by a second movement that goes through the chords Am7, D13sus4, and ends with a G7maj. To close out the verse, it moves through F6, B7, Em7, A7/A#, B/A.

The chorus is somewhat more complex and it is what carries a more flamenco feel. Your ear will therefore be decisive in achieving the right sound.

Remember that we have left the Sheet Music/Tablature for you so that you can read through it more fluently. We also recommend that you listen to it closely so you become familiar with the sound of Tres notas para decir te quiero by Vicente Amigo Girol.
