How to transpose chords to another key

Transposing means moving every note or chord of a song the same distance, so it sounds higher or lower without changing the melody or the relationship between chords. It is what you do when a song is too high or too low for your voice, or when you want easier chord shapes. Paste your progression, choose the semitones (12 = one octave) or the target key, and done: each chord is converted keeping its quality. If you raise the key on guitar, use the suggested capo to keep playing the same easy shapes.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I transpose a song to another key?

Paste the chords (or lyrics with chords) into the box, choose how many semitones to move up or down, or pick the target key directly. The transposer changes every chord instantly keeping its quality (major, minor, 7, sus, etc.). Copy the result with one click.

Does it handle slash chords and extensions?

Yes. It recognizes chords like C/G, Dm7, F#maj7, Bsus4, Aadd9, Gm7b5 and more. It transposes both the root and the bass note after the slash, and keeps the rest of the chord symbol intact.

What is the capo and how does it help?

A capo raises the pitch without changing your chord shapes. If you transpose up, the transposer suggests which fret to place the capo so you can play with easy chord shapes (for example, sound in F but play E shapes with the capo on fret 1).

Can I choose between sharps and flats?

Yes. You can force the output in sharps (C#, F#) or flats (Db, Gb). By default we use the most common notation for the target key, but you decide so it matches your sheet music.

Does it work for guitar, piano, ukulele and voice?

Yes. The transposer works with letter chord names (C, D, E…), valid for any harmonic instrument. It is ideal for adapting a song to your vocal range or playing along with another instrument in a different tuning.

Is it free and without sign-up?

Completely free, no sign-up, right in the browser. All the processing happens on your device, so your songs are not sent to any server.
