Learn where every note is on the guitar, bass or ukulele. See and hear the notes, pick your tuning and test yourself with practice mode. The fastest way to master the neck.
The neck looks like a maze at first, but it has logic: each fret goes up a semitone and at fret 12 the open notes repeat one octave higher. Learn the open strings first and the natural notes on the E strings (low and high), because they are your reference for everything. Then use the markers (3, 5, 7, 9 and the double dot at 12) as anchor points. Turn on "Show notes" to study, and when you think you know them, switch to practice mode: identifying random notes under pressure is what really fixes them in memory. Hearing each note when you press it reinforces the link between position, name and sound.
Start by memorizing the open string notes and the marker frets (3, 5, 7, 9, 12). Turn on "Show notes" to see them all, then use Practice mode: the tool lights a fret and you pick the correct note. A few minutes daily is the fastest way to master the neck.
Guitar in standard tuning (EADGBE) and Drop D, 4-string bass (EADG), and ukulele (GCEA). When you change instrument or tuning, the whole fretboard is recalculated, including the open strings.
Yes. When you press any fret the note sounds at its real pitch, so you associate the position with the sound. It is very useful to train your ear and check you are pressing the right note.
The tool lights a random fret and asks which note it is, with several options. You hit or miss and it moves to the next one, keeping score. It is a short, addictive game to fix the notes without getting bored.
Knowing where every note is lets you improvise, find chords all over the neck, read sheet music, transpose and communicate with other musicians. It is one of the skills that most sets an advanced guitarist or bassist apart.
