    How to compose a score online step by step

    Set up your piece: clef, key (the key signature draws itself), meter, pickup if it starts on an upbeat, instrument and tempo. In the Notes tab pick the value and click the staff; the blue ghost always shows which note you are about to place. Drag any note to tune it, or select a block with Shift and copy, paste or transpose it. Chord mode stacks notes, the tuplet selector makes triplets or quintuplets, and you have ties, grace notes, articulations, dynamics with hairpins, ottava, fingering, expression text, repeats and 1st/2nd endings. You can work with up to four voices or the piano grand staff. When you finish, listen with the cursor following the notes and export to PDF, MIDI, WAV or image; if you have an account, save it and publish it for the community.     Frequently asked questions

    How do I write a score with the editor?

    Pick a value in the Notes tab (from whole to thirty-second) and click the staff at the height you want: the note is placed and sounds. You can drag any note to change its pitch, select several with Shift and copy, paste or transpose the block. The professional score is engraved below in real time.

    Can I write chords, triplets, quintuplets and ties?

    Yes. Chord mode stacks notes on the same beat; the tuplet selector creates triplets, quintuplets, sextuplets or septuplets; and you have ties, slurs and grace notes. Also double dots, ottava (8va), fingering and free text such as Andante or rit.

    Can I import and export my scores?

    Yes. Import MusicXML (.xml or .musicxml) or ABC files to keep working on them, and export to PDF, MIDI, SVG image or WAV audio. You can also print directly.

    Are my scores saved to my account?

    If you are signed in, you can save your scores to your account and reopen them from "My scores" on any device. You can also publish them so other musicians in the community can see them. Without an account, the editor saves your work in the browser.

    What clefs, keys and voices are supported?

    Treble, bass and alto clefs; all major and minor keys with their key signature drawn; meters from 2/4 to 12/8 with optional pickup; up to 4 independent voices and a piano grand staff (treble and bass braced). You choose the playback instrument and tempo.

    Is it free with no install?

    Yes, completely free, no sign-up required and it works in the browser on desktop and tablet. The score is drawn on your own device.
