What Is Jazz?
Jazz is the expression of the soul of a people in the midst of persecution, slavery, and rejection, simply for being different.
Yes, jazz is a genre born out of pain, yet with the aim of bringing joy to the wounded hearts of enslaved African Americans and their children, who grew up in the midst of a culture that rejected them.
That's why jazz stirs up so many emotions, and why it's also open to a wide range of influences, because jazz is also about accepting everyone as they are, in all their forms, colors, and different cultures.
Jazz is the identity of one people and of many, and it was born in the early 19th century. Ever since, it has spread all over the world.

The Jazz Bass
The jazz bass is one of the most beautiful expressions of this genre, because it carries an incredible sweetness.
A jazz bassist has to be top-notch, with both a technical and a theoretical understanding of the highest order.
That's why the jazz bass is the instrument that completes the band, giving its sound that round, full, tight, and solid quality.

Jazz Bass Method
To give you a consistent start in your jazz bass studies, we're sharing a book that contains one hundred jazz bass lessons.
This method is one of the most complete, because you'll be able to read in both clefs, treble and bass. On top of that, each lesson comes with a clear, concise explanation of what you'll be working on so you can get it right.
100 Jazz Bass Lessons
This is the heart of the method; the hundred lessons are what will turn you into an intermediate-level jazz bassist if you work all the way through them.
Each of these lessons features a chord along with the scale or phrase that goes with it, building up to a complete harmonic function.
Our recommendation is to analyze each lesson until you understand why each scale pairs with its assigned chord.
After that, you can analyze the harmonic function of the entire lesson so you understand where the whole key comes from and where it's headed.
